CardBoard ChessTower Bacame TriLEGO pieces (1)

. Before the project intoduction, need tell one story about Flamechess Gift Tower(II), at next year of 5 meter high Biggest Queen Stand on SportAccord World MindGames. Many supporter of flamechess was ecouraged by the biggest tower, all of them hope it be copied faster that can build more and more flamechess as gifts share to more kids, what’s the bright signs in minds. (first pic, Mr.Vlad Marinescu wrote 1,000,000 for Mr.Yuan.)

. After one years efforts, the 6 huge chess tower stand on BJ Acadamy, each tower building time less than 3 hours, only need 6-7 junior students.
. In those efforts, created a creation tools, smaller cardboard pieces 5cm x 5cm one face, large one was 30cm x 30cm. the smaller tower just less then 1 meter high. the Gift on hand of Mr.jacoboson was build by the smaller cardboard.

. the gif animation was the design testing of the newest project TriLEGO pieces. The Project target is creating a basic piece like LEGO piece, but based triangle. (right the gif was the designs.) this diary wrote for junior makers and my students how was the designs became true from CardBoard ChessTower.

in Effort of flamechessIII design, meet these problem.

  1. too expensive to model to many diffrent demenstion cirle piece. 16 kinds of small pieces need to be model.
  2. whole chess pieces to model, no changable, not the start design.
  3. there’re 2 version of chess tower, another was not used. (just try it.)

 cut the paper to test imaging model.

. diag.01 was the 1st imaging, just test one corner, draw it on cardboard, at top right corner, continue draw a small triangle model. diag.02 was the adventage model with 3 corner small triangles, each small was 1/3 eage of large one. (the size adaptive with LEGO.)

. This (diag.03) was the testing each step: a)first basic model triangle adding addition 3 red small triangle; b)together 6 small triangle, creating 1 yellow circle, size was 4.8mm; c) draw triangle array to view; d) draw other 4 yellow circles; the result was triangle can’t adaptive with rectangle hasing the same vertexs in integer.(by caculation.)

. diag.04 was the final struction, it was designed after paper cutting testing above gif animation. then, diag.05 using circle adiptive with triangle can using lower precision to build the elments. (diag.4.5 was testing)

 caculate the triangles sizes.

. diag.03 was 17 big triangles array, one of them with 8mm eages. diag.04 & diag.05 was 1/9 of big one. each eages has 0.8mm width. How about the circle size in Diag05? (after lot of caculates, Diag05 triangle has 0.4mm width eages. the result was d=1.5625mm)

. first trying was based 4mm triangle, got error high 3.464101615. secend trying was based real 8mm triangle, 1/9 small one’s high was 2.2360679774998, then got the final result.
